    Does anyone know the control key or key sequence that makes Thunderbird
    throw away the posting one is currently working on without comment?

    ctrl-W or alt-F4, but only if you haven't entered/modified any content.

    I my case I had, but I've noticed that the sequence Ctrl-Z Ctrl-S Crtl-W
    will do it. I suppose it's not impossible to enter that sequence by
    mistake while fumbling over the keyboard. I've looked for a way to
    disable Ctrl-W, but not found one.
