• cannot access comp.lang.tcl via news.aioe.org

For 3 years now, I've been using thunderbird to access the tcl news group using news.aioe.org. For over 2 weeks now that site seems to be down.

Is there another free, no account needed, alternative to that one?

Yes, and there's been no clear indication why that I've found.

I don't know any other "no account needed" but eternal september (https://www.eternal-september.org/) is also free, and allows for
    freely registering an account.

Thanks, It took me forever to finally find that you have to hit the
refresh button after all the setup to get more than the standard eternal-september set. Whew!!!

A log out and back in would likely have achieved the same end result.

Now I can read messages w/o google removing all leading spaces.
Can't imagine how python readers could ever use google groups.

Yes, the leading spaces are in the message, but HTML collapses them
    back out.

You might also consider configuring your reader to pre-wordwrap your
messages, otherwise they end up as really big single long lines for
    many of us.

Note that you can hide your real address in Eternal September:

Consider astraweb. Not free but very cheap. I bought 25gb for $10 many
years ago and have hardly dented that just reading c.l.tcl. Works well
    with thunderbird.
