  • Android Gopher clients

    So, Overbite Android no longer works for me, because my new phone has no
    way to simulate pushing the menu button (which hasn't actually been on
    new handsets since 2012!). It looks like someone recently released a new
    client on the play store called DiggieDog, are there any other options? (besides, of course, sshing out and using lynx... but talk about a
    miserable experience)

    Besides the menu button, if anyone knows about a mobile client with
    UTF-8 support please let me know. I haven't been able to view UTF-8
    correctly neither with Overbite nor with DiggieDog.

    Another problem I find with both mobile clients is viewing ASCII art
    correctly, not sure if this depends on the mobile's screen size.

    My best experience continues to be ssh + lynx from any platform, since I
    get both out of the box: UTF-8 support and screen-size independent ASCII
    art viewing.

    Well, I don't know if it does or not, but someone recently plugged a new android client on the SDF bboard. I haven't looked at it much yet, but

    Ya, it's the same name. Perhaps someone should point that out to
    "afonsotrepa" so as to avoid confusion.

    BTW, I recently switched to a J2ME flip phone and installed PocketGopher
    on it; works quite well. The only issue I have with it is the blue
    links are near impossible to read on my phone's dark background,
    something I can't seem to change in the settings. I think just going to
    an opaque background for the app would solve this issue; might try
    building a custom version to address that.
