You can use ALT-b to get rid of it, and ALT-b to also get rid of the
mouse pointer.
but is otherwise (I think) pretty close to what you want by toggling full-screen mode with Alt-D. I hope that helps.
I had full screen already.
I used XrandR. I figured that if I use VidMode it the Commodore 64 screen almost fills out the entire screen. But causes problems to no show the
menu (after ALT-b) and the mouse running through the screen (vanishing on
top and coming out at the bottom). I cannot get any menu option. VICE also crashed frequently when I use this.
Am back to the smaller display with XrandR, which works reliable.
