It's been some time since I set up a new database. I'm doing that now
for a ridiculously simple database and I can't do it. The database is
created but I can't create the layout I want.
The database has all of three fields: a date, an amount, and a total (of
the amounts). In layout mode everything looks good. I've put borders
around the fields and made sure they're filled with white (against the
gray of the "Enlightened" theme). When I switch to browse mode, the
fields vanish. There are funny rectangles at the left, about an inch
wide, that demark the body and footer of the layout, but no fields.
Creating a new record has no visual effect, although the record count
does increase by one.
If I view the database as a table, the date and amount fields appear,
but not the total. I have no control over the way the date and amount
fields look.
Any ideas?

How is your total defined? Is it a calculated field? Do the fields it
relies on actually contain anything? Since it totals something it should probably rely on a field (or more fields) that contains only numbers.
Are those fields actually defined as numbers? Is the result returned a
number? You say can't see it, but can you TAB into it as an empty field?
Did you define the layout to be pointing to the correct tableOccurrance?
Perhaps it is one of the above, Erik
