    World War II air attack on Dresden, which British diplomat and author

    One of those who survived being on the receiving end of the bombing
    was an American POW named Kurt Vonnegut. You might have heard of him;
    he later used the incident as the main setting for his novel
    “Slaughterhouse Five” (or “Schlachthof Fünf” as he was taught to say).

    It's been kind of like that at least since they figured
    out how to scribble on clay tablets. Conquest, holy wars,
    genocides, rape & pillage, cities in flames.
