Remember, his was a country that didn’t want to get involved in that war,
and was quite happy to continue friendly diplomatic relations with the murderous Nazi regime, while Britain basically stood alone for about two
years against the threat of a German invasion.
So yes, history does repeat itself in a way, but perhaps the parallel
takes a form that ole Hucky might not like ...
