. . .
Exactly how this will WORK, in practice, is unclear.
Devils, details.
Who gets blamed/charged/fined if the workers run off ?
At least Trump DOES realize there's a serious labor
problem here in the ag and similar industries. His
overall immigrant sentiments MUST include a few
loopholes. Purist ? Racist ? Fuck off.
In any case, he signed the BBB yesterday afternoon.
This pumps a lot more money into ICE/border agencies
and other apparatus intended to deal with illegals.
He said there were ZERO illegal crossers yesterday.
Not sure if that's true, but it still a HELL of a
change since Joe/K.
Wow - WHAT a pain in the ass reversing Joe's damage !
Of note : Florida has long had a labor-import
arrangement with cane-cutters from Jamaica.
They come, they harvest, they get enough pay
to live well the rest of the year in the
homeland, they leave. It works very well.
Similar arrangements for other ag industries should
pattern themselves just like that. Foreign workers
should get special visas, fair pay, and then GO
HOME when the job is done.
There ARE some 'special industries' that need
'laborers' - things like lawn and tree-trimming
businesses. Few Americans want to DO stuff like
that anymore. Enough pay to make them WANT to
would make the services unaffordable. We're
kind of stuck here until the robots finally get
good enough (20 years ?).
(oh, the robots may also be good enough to
do YOUR job ... fair warning ... and I've
heard of NO plans to deal with all the obsolete
humans. Ever read 'Make Room', aka "Soylent
Green" ? Just sayin' )
