fact SNL had a running parody of it in their first season.
I'd had forgotten that!
first time I saw it. It was the Saturday after Thanksgiving at my
aunt's and uncle's house in Santa Barbara (the house burned down in
the Painted Cave fire in 1990, but my relatives had moved away from
it long before). I almost couldn't believe what I was watching. And
yes, I well remember Chevy Chase doing Gerald Ford stumbling down
stairs. I didn't appreciate at the time the irony of a Chevy
mimicking a Ford ;-)
Chevy got so mmany movie offers he quit the show after the
first season, got replaced by Mill Murray.
