The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency was
fired Thursday morning, according to two people with direct
knowledge of the situation.
Cameron Hamilton, FEMA’s acting administrator, has told
people that he was terminated, leaving the nation’s disaster
agency without a top official three weeks before the start
of the Atlantic hurricane season and as Congress scrutinizes
FEMA’s proposed budget for fiscal 2026.
. . .
A lot of POLITICS had worked its way into FEMA - the
most recent being SNUBBING red-hat voters in Fla
and NC. The paperwork pyramid too ... yikes !
Now Trump IS right that states should/must have their
own disaster fund. FEMA, which is still needed, should
be the emergency BACK-UP for State capabilities.
Some states - Florida, Texas, probably Cal - can
easily put money aside. Many OTHER states aren't
such biz powerhouses though. Not sure if there
can be a general rule, or whether 50 distinct
rules will be required.
