I lived in Central America when I was a child, and the prevailing view
of the Roman Catholic Church held by many adults in that time frame was
that the RC Church, more than any other institution, had kept the
indigenous people ignorant, poor, and, in the case of native women and
girls pregnant and barefoot. The RC church had held back people of color
in Latin America for centuries. So I find it sickening that these
Catholic priests and Nuns in El Norte try to pose as the loving saviours
of the migrants coming north into the United States. As far as I'm
concerned, the Vatican has more than enough wealth in the form of stolen
gold and other assets to pay for the "charity" they feel is their duty
to give to the poor, and not demand that U.S. taxpayers fund their
Catholic Charities here or abroad through USAID.
