Should that have been "the best option ... TO enrol" rather than AND? (It might _just about_ be grasmmatical with "and", but it would certainly read/flow better with "to". Unless there's a deliberate reason they used "and".)>>

As with XP and 7, I have no intention of worrying about the cessation of "support" (I don't feel "supported" anyway). But of course unlike previous versions, AIUI "updates" in 10 can't be turned off, which implies - to me, anyway - the possibility that,
maybe some years down the line, M$ would be able to kill off - stop working altogether - any 10 machine still online. Thoughts? (Including can it be blocked if I'm right.)

There are any number of natural calamities that could affect the OS.
It will age out due to some "accident" rather than to a malicious
feature delivered via Windows Update. Maybe the year 2038 bug.

But practically speaking, the files on the machine, some have signing,
and the signing is unlikely to last exactly forever. I think WinXP had
some signed things in it, and that hasn't broken that way yet.

I had one installer DVD, which had short signing of a critical file,
and the installer DVD would no longer boot (after maybe six months or so).

There will be no up-to-date browsers for Windows 10, and that should
cause the population of Windows 10 machines to drop.

But the Departures sign at the airport, it'll continue to run :-)

Keep good system images of all Win10 installations from October of this
    year onwards.
The extremely large number of people who can't afford to buy new
hardware (which will include hospitals and social welfare, amidst the
millions of private individuals) will attract criminals to repeat the ransomware cyber attacks of last year.
I'm hoping that MS will soon realise this, not want the blame laying on
their heads, and do a full u-turn.
I could happen. Watch this space.

I have 300 points out of 1000 needed. I have no idea where I got them
or how to get more. Seems to me the $7 of skype money I'll never be
able to use ought to be worth more than 700 points.

And Teams is in no way a substitute for Skype. YOu can only communicate
with other people on Teams, and with Skype you could call any phone
number in the world. I think "Teams" refers to development teams,
people paid to work on the same project. How do they even have the

Microsoft has ’Teams Calling Plans’. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/calling-plans-for-office-365

For a low-low-low fee you can connect Teams to the public telephone net, and call people ‘outside of your orginization’. Note that there are different ‘Teams Calling Plans’ for local, long-distance, and internataional calls.
I suspect that they won’t be cheap. I suspect that I will never know, as I will never use one of them.

Wow. I read the whole thing when I first learned about Teams and I
don't think it mentioned calling public phone net at all. I reinstalled
the app and was reminded that my contact list contained and still
contains 5 names, 3 of whom I've never heard of, Lionel Thomson, Sam
Finch, and Harper. 1 I knew and 1 is only initials and I'm not sure of.
Then I went to my 9 chat requests and they are all spam, since
Decemeber. Crap about options trading. Or gold trading. That sounds
    better, sure.

Then I looked up transferring Skype money to Teams money and one cannot
do that. He has to use the Skype Dialer within the Teams app.

There is an entry for the "Skype dialer". Oops, it looks like something
went wrong. Click OK to automatically relaod Skype for web. Over and
over. Not looking good, but I'll try again later. .

As to the price, for international calling, the only time I'd ever need
it since both my home and cell phoen will call all over the USA, Mexico
and Canada too,I think, is 34/month paid yearly. $408. Not cheap.
Especially since my Verizopn landline will let me call anywhere for no
more than 20 cents a minute, and my cell Mint mobile has so far let me
make 4 or 5 international calls without ever charging me. They are not
in my plan, and only total about 25 cents, but I'm sill impressed that
they know how to do business. Don't nickel and dime customer and they'll
be your customers for life. The country I call most often is 1 cent a
minute for landlines and 10 cents for mobile, so I won't be spending 408 dollars. I just want to spend the $7 I already paid them. We shall
    see. Thanks.

Keep in mind, ESU for corporate Win10 is available for 3 yrs(2025, 2026,
2027 purchase, support ending in Oct 2028). ESU for consumer editions
    last 1 yr(2025, support ending in 2026)

Thus, any direction towards 'stop working' is quite a bit down the road
    even for consumer.

That doesn't reassure me at all: surely, if they are planning any

I have 300 points out of 1000 needed. I have no idea where I got them
or how to get more. Seems to me the $7 of skype money I'll never be
able to use ought to be worth more than 700 points.

And Teams is in no way a substitute for Skype. YOu can only communicate with other people on Teams, and with Skype you could call any phone number in the world. I think "Teams" refers to development teams,
people paid to work on the same project. How do they even have the
nerve to call Teams a subsitute for Skype?

Microsoft has ’Teams Calling Plans’. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/calling-plans-for-office-36

For a low-low-low fee you can connect Teams to the public telephone net, and
call people ‘outside of your orginization’. Note that there are different
‘Teams Calling Plans’ for local, long-distance, and internataional calls.
I suspect that they won’t be cheap. I suspect that I will never know, as I
will never use one of them.

We shall
    see. Thanks.

    no prob

I have already been warned that Zoom will no longer be supporting

But doesn't that just mean if it breaks they won't fix it, or if you

    It could mean either.

I'm not quite sure how Zoom works, but I think it uses their servers,
and, if so, it probably means it won't work.

That's what "end of support" used to mean; unfortunately, for things
like Zoom, they involve a server, which may _actively_ not accept
connections from the older versions of the client software that is the
latest that will run under W10, or on 32-bit systems, or similar.
