  • What is the status of free/adfree/loginfree basic AI apps/programs/URLs

    From Marion@21:1/5 to All on Tue Apr 8 20:35:28 2025
    XPost: comp.mobile.android, misc.phone.mobile.iphone

    Since every time we help one person, we should help every person,
    I just now looked this up for Ant on iOS, so it could be wrong,
    but that's why I'm posting this summary for others to help.

    Is this the current state of general purpose AI apps & URLs that are
    a. Free
    b. No ads
    c. No login/password requirement

    So far, I found, these dedicated general purpose apps...
    A. For iOS
    B. For Android
    C. For Windows

    ChatGPT (by OpenAI):
    iOS: <https://apps.apple.com/us/app/chatgpt/id6448311069>
    Android: <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.openai.chatgpt>
    <https://chatgpt.com>
    <ms-windows-store://pdp/?ProductId=9NZKP7MQZ3VR>

    Gemini (by Google DeepMind):
    iOS: <https://apps.apple.com/us/app/google-gemini/id6477489729>
    Android: <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.gemini>
    <https://gemini.google.com>
    <https://deepmind.com/research>

    Note I didn't find a dedicated Windows Gemini app, but this is how
    to create a pseudo-gemini app on Microsoft Windows for an interface.
    1. Open Google Chrome & go to https://gemini.google.com/
    2. Click the hamburger at the top right of Chrome
    3. Cast, save & share > Install page as app > (rename) > Install
    (Make sure "Open as window" checkbox is checked!
    This will create a desktop shortcut & a startmenu entry.

    What about others?
    a. Jasper <https://www.jasper.ai/> no IPA/APK
    <MSWord > Insert > Get Add-ins > Jasper>
    b. 1.800.chatgpt (15 minutes/month)?
    c. Copilot?
    <https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nht9rb2f4hd>
    d. Perplexity AI? <https://www.perplexity.ai/>
    <https://apps.apple.com/us/app/perplexity-ask-anything/id1668000334>
    <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ai.perplexity.app.android>
    <ms-windows-store://pdp/?ProductId=9NF8Z9R5V79V>
    e. Claude (Anthropic)? <https://www.anthropic.com/claude>
    <https://apps.apple.com/us/app/claude-by-anthropic/id6473753684>
    <https://claude.ai/>
    f. Pi (Inflection AI)?
    <https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pi-personal-ai-assistant/id6445815935>
    <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ai.inflection.pi>
    <https://pi.ai/>
    g. Character.ai?
    <https://apps.apple.com/us/developer/character-ai/id1643189032>
    <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ai.character.app>
    <https://character.ai/>
    etc.

    What is the status of free/adfree/loginfree basic (i.e., general purpose)
    AI apps/programs/URLs on our mobile and Windows computer devices?

    In the Apple newsgroups, badgolferman tested Grok against both chatGPT and Gemini and found Grok to be superior, so I list it below for reference.

    <https://grok.com>
    <https://apps.apple.com/au/app/grok-by-xai/id6670324846>
    <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ai.x.grok>
    <there is no official windows app for grok yet>

    Note that Grok does not appear to meet our divine requirements though of
    being free, adfree and not requiring a login/password mothership account.

    Its "Terms and Conditions" and "Privacy Policy" together come to around
    11,000 words. That's probably about average these days. :-(

    Does anyone with no commercial interest actually read these?

    An example of what Shoshana Zuboff in her book "The Age Of Surveillance Capitalism" called an 'uncontract' - an online 'contract' whose terms
    were made so complex that no-one would ever read them.

    I use this, no install of any app, available on any OS I think since it's a link.
    https://copilot.microsoft.com/chats/UrRvMcTkuVjCn8kHsGhQF

    However, every time I paste and go, I get a different url. I did sign in with my hotmail
    account and that seems to keep the url constant.

    If anyone succeeded in reading through one of these uncontracts they
    should award themselves this: <https://www.amazon.co.uk/Monty-Python-Official-Gumby-T-shirt/dp/B07VB9Y2S9>
