I have used RealVNC for remote control of other pc's for quite a few
years. It was a free version. It worked well and I was very happy with it. They will stop with the free version and now I have to pay for it. It is
€ 234.57 per year. To my meaning this is too expensive and I don't want
to pay this much. So now I have to search for alternatives.
Does any of you have a suggestion? I'd like to read it.

I have found that <https://www.tightvnc.com/> works very well.

Can anybody recommend a good alternative to TeamViewer please? It's
supposed to be free for occasional non-business use but I can never get
it to work for more than 30 seconds at a time - so it's useless for
debugging a problem.

I installed the Viewer on my W10 Peo PC, and the Server on a W11 Pro laptop. When starting the viewer with the port 5900, the answer is that the
connection failed.

Have you enabled the outgoing and incoming ports in Defender Firewall?

I switched off the Defender Firewall on the pc and the laptop. Did not
make a difference.

AnyDesk, or if you mean Win10/11, then the built-in QuickAssist (just
press Win+Ctrl+Q) is good for most tasks (though it doesn't allow
gaining remote admin permission within the session).

I don't have a working UVNC server accessible at the moment. I've installed it loads of times. I always open the server application and tweak the admin settings, but I've done it so many times I can't remember what I do without one in front of me. I do always set a password. I'll then open Windows Settings and "Allow an app through Windows Firewall", choosing to allow through networks designated Public, or Private, or both as appropriate.

find it very stable and reliable.

I got dumped by TeamViewer for using it to help an elderly relative once
every month or two. I found a free alternative, but it has trouble
maintaining connections at times. It has good days and bad.

I use TeamViewer as well, for a remote pc on a distance, it works well.
It's only for one client.
In our house we have 5 clients. That's the reason I used a different application.

That could be. I don't use it very often, but sometimes those sessions

I could not make a connection.
Copied your command and pasted in the command line. As administrator. No output. And after closing UltraVNC it restarted my pc. This happend
before as well.

But I decided to pay for RealVNC and go on with it. I have a few remote
pc's without a keyboard and monitor, and they are not easy accessable.
So it's quite a job to install new applications.

Mail them and explain it's for personal use and they will (probably) fix
that for you. They did when I contacted them about it.
