I have two machines in my office and have been using a kvm switch for
years with no problem. I recently replaced one of the machines and
confirmed the KVM was working ok.
The next day however the KVM did not activate on the previously existing machine.
I tried a different KVM switch and the same thing happened. It worked initially but after both machines were switched off and back on...it
would not switch over.
In all instances I could switch back OK to the other machine.
Kind of a PITA to have two KB and two Mice on my desk

One of mine steals power from USB to function, so check if you have a
BIOS option that allows that when a machine is powered off. Or use an external power supply?

I would prefer a product that has a separate barrel
input connector for the DC power the product needs.
The structure above is Wired-OR input power.
There is actually a small problem with KVMs, in that
the safety-ground on the two computers, could be
at different potentials, and then you'd have to
figure out what to do about the grounding issues.
I've never had a problem at home here with this,
but did have problems at work (very large building).

Thanks folks>
One of my KVM's has an external power port so I am going to keep it
powered and see if that works.
