Hallo bunnygirl,
So I have an old G4 Mac (mirror door) tower that just needs some ram and a hard drive to be good to go (both were missing when I acquired the tower). While I wouldn't mind throwing a pre-OSX version on there, I'm curious if there are any good alternatives for the PPC platform. Any gotchas that I should be aware of?
If you are searching for alternative operating systems, there is
MorphOS, which can run on PPC hardware.
For a compatibility list, see:
https://www.morphos-team.net/hardware
The PowerMac G4 is supported if an ATI graphics card is used.
Besides, there are some Linux variations which can run on a G4; but I
don't have any experience on this topic.
Regards,
Anna
