  • SSH vs. Telnet

    I'm running on telnet which, of course, has a poor security reputation. I see many are using SSH. Are there any security issues with running Mystic on telnet? I'm having SSH connection issues, and wondering if there's any point
    to putting time into troubleshooting.

    Telnet is pretty standard for BBSes in spite of the security concerns, and I don't think anyone has had any security related issues. That said...

    Telnet is unencrypted. Everything is completely in the clear. That means, someone on your network could packet sniff all traffic transmitted between
    the client and the server (BBS) and see everything, including password transmission and things like that.

    What do you mean by "security issues"? Telnet is plain-text across the wire/network, so all communication -- what you type, passwords, etc. -- are unprotected.

    Ah, yes, good question. I had in mind nefariosi hacking into the system,
    rather than packet-sniffing passwords.
