From Vincent Coen@2:250/1 to All on Sat Oct 4 14:40:05 2025

    Hello everybody!

This covers two file areas :

    1. FIDOGAZETTE will be removed from FILEGATE.ZXX (and moved to the inactive list) and removed from the system which means any one connected will also be cleared out.

    2. I have received the following msg from Alan Ianson :-

    Msg starts:
It seems there is a funding issue at NASA and so the APOD website https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ is not being updated any more. There is a one line note near the top of the webpage that says..

"Due to the lapse in federal government funding, NASA is not updating this website. We sincerely regret this inconvenience."

So unless the good folks at NASA can find a way to fund the APOD project it looks like it is over.

I'll keep an eye on the website for any updated info but for now at least there
will be no hatches for me to send your (or anyone else's) way.

Just letting you know what the situation is.

    Msg ends:.

I am assuming this refers to the 'daily' weather maps which I notice often comes in two days clumps anyway for many weeks so even less useful which in
any event is mostly useless for Europe as it will change significantly enough to be totally inaccurate :)

Here I speak as a pilot so I do not even bother looking at them - more useful is the 12 hour forecasts for lower and upper wind patterns (jet stream) etc.

I did send a reply to his msg pointing out that I was suppressed that this facility was not totally automated - might explain why lately they come in clumps of multiple days worth and no nothing to do with my system which is fully automated.

No, I am refering to the files I hatch in the NASA file area, The astronomy picture of the day.

I don't hatch the files in the WEATHER area, I think they originate at 1:229/426. Those files are still flowing as far as I know.

It's the files in the NASA area that have stopped flowing, at least for now.

The last file hatched was ap251001.zip. If NASA can manage to find a way to fund the APOD project and update their website then I will continue to hatch those files but it seems that for now anyway it is not happening.
