I liked Mint a bit more the Ubuntu, but Ubuntu seems to just work better for the BBS.

How so? I don't doubt Ubuntu works well for the BBS; I've never had any problems running my BBS with Mint though.

I have to agree. I have gotten about 10 Sunrise doors running under Ubuntu and dosemu2, and never got any of them working under Mint. I just keep working on one door at time now.

Interesting.. I'm using Mint and Dosemu2 and have set up a few Sunrise doors and haven't had any trouble with them.

    Ubuntu, it just works. :)

I agree, Ubuntu is solid, back when I was distro hopping I alway's landed back on Ubuntu.

Of course, the downside is that there is a huge amount of bloat.

The other side of the coin, Arch, which I've enjoyed using at home, lacks pretty much everything and you have to go through and install what you want. I found out that it didn't have any sort of time synchronization daemon running the other after about 6 months of using it :)

I use a light desktop LXDE so not to much bloat.
I enjoy UFW, I keep thinking when I get time I may move my BBS to linux.
That might wait until I retire.

I very much like running Mint. My BBS ran very good on it. I could never get dosemu2 to work with any doors. I put Ubuntu on the same PC as a dual boot and installed the same BBS setup, installed dosemu2 and did get 10 doors working. They where Sunrise Doors. I have NOT gotten anf of my classic or JNS working yet.

Also it is VERY possible that it was something I did wrong on the Mint setup..

It definitely comes with one installed if you're using systemd, but as you say, it isn't "running" by default. You have to enable it (systemd-timesyncd).

Not sure why they do that, to be honest. I had used ntpd for so long that after a fresh install some time ago I forgot to install it. Once the issues arose, I looked into what /should/ be running, and have used that ever since.

dosemu2 seems a bit finnicky. I had to play with it a bit before it ended up working.

I'm using Lubuntu at the moment. I used to use EndeavourOs. May switch back.
