Yes I did. Fidonet messages get published on the internet all over the place, so that seemed like the correct thing to do (as spam prevention)...

It's really too bad that somewhere along the way when FTN and
BBS messaging was purely direct B2B [bbs to bbs] and
represented snoop-free environments that some form of
encryption wasn't considered as part of the message format
later when internet was becoming the defacto transport
mechanism and "porting" to nntp-style bases and opening message
bases with open-web acesss was simply "fun" to do. Keeping
content of the messages out of the reach of skimmers and non-
bbs folk would have been wise.
