This week's focus is in commemoration of D-Day (June 6), when Allied Forces invaded
the shores of Normandy during World War II. It features notables who participated in the
invasion, whether through planning, soldiering, or telling the story to the world.

    Per wikitree.com I am:

    18 degrees from Dwight Eisenhower
    21 degrees from Yogi Berra
    21 degrees from Jimmy Doohan
20 degrees from Simon Fraser Fifteenth Lord Lovat
    23 degrees from Alec Guinness
    22 degrees from Percy Hobart
    18 degrees from Bobby Jones
    20 degrees from Martha Matthews
    26 degrees from Ronald McNicoll
    29 degrees from Erwin Rommel
    16 degrees from Theodore Roosevelt
    27 degrees from J. D. Salinger

    More about them:

Dwight D. Eisenhower was the Allied commanding general during the invasion and later
    served as US President.

Yogi Berra served on a support ship providing cover fire for the landings. Later, he was a
    famous baseball player.

James Doohan landed on Juno beach. He is known for his role as Scotty on Star Trek.

Sir Simon Fraser, 15th Lord Lovat, insisted on bringing his personal piper during the
    invasion.

Alec Guinness piloted a landing craft. He later played Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars.

Maj. Gen. Sir Percy Hobart designed the armored vehicles used during the invasion.

Bobby Jones was one of the most influential figures in the history of golf. After landing in
Normandy on D+1 (June 7), he spent two months with a front line division as a prisoner
of war interrogator, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Martha Matthews arrived on one of the first hospital ships on D+1 and reported on the
war to Colliers. She was the only woman to report on the landings from the ground.

Maj. Gen. Ronald McNicoll was a senior Australian Army officer, engineer, archivist, and
author. He was involved in planning the invasion.

Erwin Rommel designed the German defense of France but believed the Allies would not
invade on June 6 due to the weather. He was later executed for participating in the July
    1944 attempt to assassinate Hitler.

Teddy Roosevelt III, son of President Theodore Roosevelt, landed with the first wave at
Utah Beach, helped redirect troops after the landings came ashore in the wrong place,
and later received the Medal of Honor for his actions.

JD Salinger landed at Utah beach in the second wave. He is best known as the author of
    "The Catcher in the Rye."

I have some ancestors that were actors, architects, astronauts, Afro-American, authors, bank robbers, boxers, comedians, detectives, ghosts, holocaust survivors
Indian chiefs, pro hockey players, singers and musicians, painters, physicians,
politicians, poets, popes, writers, WW I heroes. I guess that I am a collection of
all of them, as we ALL are.

https://www.wikitree.com helps me gather this information with their weekly newsletters. It is totally free and very useful to genealogists.
