In general, they are not very different from the groups
technically.
I was thinking of one to use primarily as a public (searchable
.vs. private) so that people looking for "fidonet" might find
info on your doorway into the fidonet echos.
As I said, I started one for that purpose before I had that
Telegram hiccup just before December.
But, since we have the FIDONET.TELEGRAM echo now, that
might be good enough.
Also, it seems to me that it is even better because the new
member immediately falls into Fido.
Yes.. one click on an invite link, boom they're in.
But, as it sits now, finding the entry point requires people to
be already in fidonet. It has worked well from that vantage
point.
If only to monitor echomail activity, the Telegram app is really
cool. I can "watch" the activity from any vantage point: phone,
DT, laptop ..and in any location at any time.
Ofcourse, the key for that is your tg_BBS and the fido2telebot
must be operational.
Recently, I've hooked up to a fidonet-related Facebook group.
The reading experience is different being [1] someone writes a
Post, and [2] the "replies" are Comments. The Comments don't
seem to be searchable, only the original posts. :(
Whereas.. on Telegram, past posts *and* replies can be found.
