I seem to recall that too. QWKE implemented the longer subject
lines. A few more OLRs/systems followed.
But apparently even 40 is too long for some people. :/
So, although 40 is not as long as FTN allows, one person finds
it "annoying". :|
Meanwhile, QWK users will receive a chopped version down to 25
courtesy of their chosen programs/systems.
I think it is more annoying when people *don't* adjust the subj
according to the message content. :/
That's an old standard. The only time you'll see short
subject lines is if someone enters a short subject, or if a
QWK reader cuts it short.
The Telegram approach to produce a subject from the first 40-
chars in a message is better than having absolutely nothing.
In list view, that subject acts as a kind of preview/excerpt of
the message within.
