For updates, should I just write a script that backs up the executable, curls the zip file, unpacks it and overwrites the original, or do you
have a method for that. I'm not sure how often you update.
Good question. The game is in alpha right now, with no releases yet. I won't start keeping a Changelog until after the first release. I plan to do a release
after local games are playable and pretty well-balanced, and when I don't see any serious bugs that would affect a game.
After the first release, I may still be updating a lot, but there should be fewer cases where you would need to reset the game. But you can expect breaking
changes even after the 0.0.1 release that will require a reset.
If you still want to keep running the game on your BBS even though it will be unstable for quite a while:
I would suggest instead of backing up the executable, rename the snapshot archive right after you download it. Keep it, and then after you get the next snapshot, rename that. If the binary works fine, then remove the prior snapshot
archive. You can overwrite the original binary.
If you do need to reset, first you can copy the config.json to a separate directory. Then use `-reset-from-config <file>` to do the reset doing your prior reset config.
Some new changes may require the config.json to be completely rewritten and you
won't be able to use your backup json. The game should do that for you. After releases, I will not changes like that in the Changelog. If you're not sure, feel free to ask me about changes before you update and I'll try to give you whatever info you need.
Today I made the AI barons more intelligent, but I haven't tested it much.
Also you might be interested to know that the game is multi-node. More than one
player can play at the same time. There isn't real-time chat or any real interaction between the players. But the scores of other people playing
at the same time should update in the scores list, and you'll get notified of messages (if there are any) at the end of each turn.
