So apparently Trump has offered to pay every adult US citizen a
$5000 'Dividend' if the republicans win the November elections..

I assume he's not talking his own money since this would cost
something like $1.23 TRILLION and, at that rate, I doubt it's
coming from even just the Republican Party so it makes you
wonder where the public will assume this money is coming from?

Obviously if this were even remotely legal, the funds would
just increase the US debt to later be a burden on taxpayers so
it's really their own money.. Get it now and repay it later..

But it's just another of those things that you have to stop
    and scratch your head about..

    Another Trump first..
Publicly buying votes with taxpayer money.. B)

I had not heard this one yet!

I suspect it would be restricted to registered Republican adults. :D

I am sure it will be as true a promise as the DOGE refunds and several other things that have never happened.

I am not at all surprised at this point, unfortunately. :(

"Trump's $5,000 midterm 'dividend' is at least his fourth promise of cash for all Americans. None
    came to pass."

"First it was a "DOGE dividend." Then it was a promise of tariff checks. Then government healthcare
refunds were on the way. Now, President Trump is promising Americans another payout, this time if
Republicans win in the coming midterm elections.

I certainly HOPE Americans think about that (false) promise.

T has truly turned into a clown.

He has done it so many times I couldn't remember what the other ones were. Thanks for the reminder.

I suspect it would be restricted to registered Republican adults. :D

The published information about it did not suggest that.
After all, he's losing so many Republican voters he'll need to
pick up some Democrats if he can.. B)

I don't see that happening. :D He might pick up some so-called
    >Independents that are really Republicans and/or MAGA. I would
    >think a Democrat would need to be really upset with their candidate
    >to cross over. I would suspect them to be more likely to not vote
    >if that is the case.

I assume these mid-term elections are public voting, not just party
members? There may be a lot of people, the type who normally might
not vote at all, that may vote this time in the hopes of the $5000.

Sometimes when I listen to him I think he is talking about things
    >that were accomplished during his first term. He did accomplish
    >some things before COVID hit.
    >Gas prices were down from where they'd been before, and prices
    >on most things in general were either down or steady. That was
    >a long time ago, though, and most of what he's accomplished since
    >2024 hasn't really helped the average American much.

It would have to be looked into closely but I suspect a lot of
those 'improvements' would have been happening at that time
regardless of who was in power.

The exceptions being if you were smart and started putting money
    >in a 401K (or other investments) many moons ago, or if you have
    >money to put in the stock market and have been able to keep up
    >with what the insider trader congresspeople/other administration
    >members are buying and selling.

A lot of what happens down there is echoed in Canada. Going back
4 or 5 years I'd have been happy to get an 8% return on my retirement
savings but the past 2 years I've found myself looking at a month's
return and being disappointed that it only came out to 12% per annum.

Most full year figures work out closer to 16% or better, so the
manipulations down there, which are likely doing good things for
the better off people, are also doing the same thing up here.
    The rich get richer..

It's just unfortunate that most people in the USA don't realize
that every time Trump talks about making $200 Billion in tariffs,
that it was not paid by countries selling to the USA, it is paid
by the consumers in the USA.. Word has it that they are starting
to see the truth these days though, likely why word has it that
Trump's approval rating in the USA is down to about 12%.

They say your Bond market is in terrible shape as well, and
that affects what the average person pays for loans from their
local banks and such, and the lumber tariffs are increasing the
cost of building houses as well and then there's the million
things that expensive steel and especially aluminum will hit..

These are the general elections so, yes, they are open to all registered voters. Those $5k voters would not likely be registered Democrats. They'd also not likely be anyone who hasn't yet received any of the other promised rebates/refunds/windfalls.

Now, if Trump was a Democrat promising something free then, yeah, the suckers on the Democrat side would likely vote for him, while the Republic suckers would avoid him. The pull of suckers up for grabs has to come out of the middle somewhere, just as it does in any US election.

The key will be to get enough people who *don't* like the policies of the congresspeople who support him to get out and vote. That is the problem -- they don't like what Trump is up to but the candidates from the other side don't motivate them to vote.... that is very likely how Trump got his second term.

Here we have a couple of seats up that, if they had a strong candidate running, could be open to a flip... in one case, there is no incumbent. However, the Democrats chose Democratic Socialist-leaning candidates during their primaries, and people in this area... especially non-MAGA Republicans... are not likely to support them.

Many of the seats are in areas that only ever vote one way or the other and are not likely to flip, but others are not.

Sometimes when I listen to him I think he is talking about things
    >that were accomplished during his first term. He did accomplish

Some, maybe, but others didn't happen while Obama was President, but then did once Trump was. For example, the Obama administration had policies that were not fossil-fuel friendly, which didn't help the cost of gas prices. Gas prices, in turn, affect other commodity prices. Those policies also didn't help the cost of electric.

If you changed your "regardless of who" to "regardless of which Republican," that might be more accurate, though.

A lot of what happens down there is echoed in Canada. Going back

    Yep!

Most Americans I talk to do know that regarding the tariffs. It is mostly those folks in the "12%," and those immediately adjacent to them, that either don't understand or just don't care.

They say your Bond market is in terrible shape as well, and
that affects what the average person pays for loans from their
local banks and such, and the lumber tariffs are increasing the
cost of building houses as well and then there's the million
things that expensive steel and especially aluminum will hit..

I will go back to something you said earlier... regardless of who is in charge... on this one. If as an organization or government you don't pay your bills, your bond rating will eventually suffer which, in the case of the Federal government, will affect the market for bonds. The Trump admin isn't doing much that would fix it, so he is as good a person to blame as anyone.
