  • Installing kdar

    Following a disk problem, I want to install kdar under Mageia7 to access
    my dar backups. I am asked to set $KDEDIR to something. I don't want to install kdar under home, so I don't want to set KDEDIR=$HOME/.kde. What
    should I use please?

    OK, bit of Googling, KDEDIR=/usr was accepted, now I get
    The important program kde-config was not found
    Am I correct in thinking kde has been replaced by plasma?
    Sounds as though I'll have to contact the KDar developer.

    The most recent version appears to be available in https://www.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/mandriva/2009.1/x86_64/media/contrib/release/ kdar-2.1.0-1mdv2009.1.x86_64.html

    The easiest way to get it to run would be to install Mandriva 2009.1
    or what ever distribution was used when the backups were created.

    Porting it to work with kde plasma would be a lot of work.

    Have you tried using the dar program from the command line?

    That answers the comment I was about to make. Not only Mandriva 2009
    would be required, but a video card that it supports. I tried once to
    do something similar, but not as old.

    From what the other responders say it is time for
    you to pick a package that can access your old archives
    or if no other package can then you use an old Mandrive
    to retrieve your archives and pack them with a modern
    backup tool if you want to keep them.
