I could be educational - with an old motherboard - just to try every
bios setting to extreme and see what happens
In the past, I used to overclock the cpu. As well as increasing the speed, the voltage had to be increased for the maximum the cpu/mb combo would tolerate.
Finding that tolerance level was a matter of increasing the speed and voltage to the max, and then decreasing first the cpu speed, then the voltage to find the highest cpu speed that would work, and with the lowest voltage (to minimize extra heat) that speed would work at.
I found, the cpu either booted, or it didn't. Never encountered a setting where it
booted, but was unstable. Doesn't surprise me, just never encountered it myself.
