  • PAN newsreader -- icons / text missing or misaligned

    Hi all,

    yesterday I created one more bug report against PAN. There are some
    misaligned and even missing elements in "post article" and "get new
    headers" dialogues.

    Hope it is ok to put two bugs into one report:

    This is tested under xfce4 and icewm. If it looks different on other
    window managers you may run, please feel free to comment.

    Hi everybody,

    seems as if the relevant developers / packagers are already working on a solution regarding some Pan newsreader bugs -- Thanks!

    In the meantime I'd like to try myself to modify the source, but there
    are still some questions.

    Well, when writing software under windows I worked with Borland C++
    "resource workshop" which allows to create and modify dialogue resources
    at any time. Though I stopped working with windows and focused on Linux
    in the early 2000s, I still remember "resource workshop" and now I gladly
    see that there is a similar tool called "Glade", which seems to do almost
    the same.

    When looking over the source files for Pan 0.145 there are only c files, header files etc., but I see no xml files suitable to import into Glade.

    Can someone please point me in the right direction on how to edit GTK resources, especially to fix some misalignment bugs in dialogue windows?

    This is probably the wrong place to be asking that.

    While many of the Mageia developers probably have some experience with C, building rpm packages generally does not include actually writing programs. It's mostly taking source and patches from other sources, and including
    them in the source rpm package, which is then used to compile the binary
    rpm packages for the various supported architectures, so even the developers mailing list would likely not be reaching the right people.

    I suggest starting with the "Looking for help" section of https://www.gtk.org/

    Using rpmdrake, selecting the magnifying glass at the left of the search line, and changing the search type from package names to package descriptions, and then searching for "development environment" (without the quotes), shows a number
    of packages, with geany looking like the best option for straight c programming.
