Hi All,
We have a new node in AmigaNet:
,101,DEAD_SOCKET,Mazowieckie,Grzegorz_Worona,-Unpublished-,300,CM,IBN:deadsocket.church
I had to restore Region 20, Net 200 for this:
Region,20,Poland_Region,Poland
Host,200,Poland_Net,Poland
Which hasn't been in the nodelist since 1995! ;-)
Welcome Greg!
Bye, Wilfred.

Hi Wilfred, and hello to everyone reading,Thanks for the welcome, and for digging Region 20 back out for me. Not gonnalie - seeing "Poland" sitting in the nodelist again after all this time gaveme a stupid little grin. First time since 1995, you said. Thirty years. Oof.If you ever wondered why Poland went dark: the Amiga just got to us late.COCOM kept the good machines out until the embargo eased around '91, so whileyou lot in the West were already deep into it, we were only getting started. And then we made up for lost time - by the mid-90s the Amiga was everywherehere. Tens of thousands of them, a demoscene that punched way above itsweight (first Polish Amiga demo, "Holiday in Moscow", back in '89), our ownmags, and computer markets absolutely rammed every weekend. Good years. Then the internet showed up mid-decade, everyone drifted online, the dial-upworld quietly emptied out, and the Polish zone went with it.So that's kind of the whole point of DEAD SOCKET - that little bit of itrefusing to fully flatline. I'm die-hard Amiga guy since the old days. And because I clearly have too much time, I hung a USRobotics Courieroff a VoIP line the other night and called boards all over the world. Turnsout distance means nothing - it's all about the packet path. Great fun.Mostly I just want the Polish Amiga crowd to have somewhere to actually hangout again instead of only reminiscing, and to keep that heritage warm. Ifmore Polish boards ever show up, I'd love to grow Net 200 into a properPolish net.Cheers,Greg (kombos)DEAD SOCKET, 39:200/101
