    Hello All!

    i think we could do amiga echomail in xmpp (jabber is well supported anyware)

    just a tought, let me know if i am the only stupid sysop here :)

    Echomail via skype? Ough...
    Did you code echomail into the skype videostream like the hidden messages in pictures, or, did you write down the echomail messages letter by letter so we have to write them down, while watching your stream? ;-)

    Honesly, I prefer the 'old' style, getting echomail via binkd/pots an old style arced pakets. :-)

    Or, if this is not possible for you, just copy the pakets from your outbound onto a sd-card, and send the card via snailmail or pigeon. ;-)

    He mentioned to use XMPP as a transport layer, not Skype...

    Did you code echomail into the skype videostream like the hidden
    messages in pictures, or, did you write down the echomail messages
    letter by letter so we have to write them down, while watching your stream? ;-)

    XMPP can send files. Or you could even think about sending them as uuencoded messages. I you like you could even use end to end encryption using OTR or OMEMO XEPs.

    Me too! I think this would only be a proof-of-concept. It would get interesting if you drive this concept even further and use multi-user-chat/group-chat functionality in XMPP to distribute echomail packets. But then again you could replace echomail at all by using group-chats as echoareas. But wait! You can already do this using NNTP and newsgroups.
    So, in fact you gain very little by using XMPP. Maybe one of the small things you would gain would be Presence status of all connected nodes.

    So, yeah, it would have some charme to have this as a proof-of-concept, but that's all I think... and I don't think that it's worth the effort given the current size of Fidonet. We have other things to care about...

    I know. I did understand his meaning, but I didn't give a proper answer.
    I just interpret 'echomail' and 'skype'.

    Anyway, it doesn't make sence, to use high level tcp protocols. Currently our binkp is quite safe. Otherwise, binkp is a point to point connection.
    To destribute mails into a group protocoll we need any different, than a huge crowd of scripts and some propretary software.

    To implement a usefull group protokoll, maybe all pkt's can be encapsulated and encrypted into a smtp connection using bcc.
    It's just a idea.

    BUT, a proper working tosser does this by default. A mailer is nothing else than a mailer. To stuck all things together, mixes all things, but it is a mixture, without beeing clear. Gosh, my english gettin worse...

    Why not? Usually our local postal delivery services (dhl) is quite fast. Otherwise, some other postal delivery services aren't fast. Sometimes I think, they ride a pigeon around the world, to deliver a letter. ;-)

    Give a try, and you'll be knowing.
